Bitesize and Material Matrices

Clyde Oliver

Visited the Bitesize Anglo Japanese exhibition at the Daiwa building in Regent's Park.  It was a curious exhibition, at first the pieces didn't appear to be bitesize but somewhat bigger.  Lesley Miller gave a brilliant talk and it all then made sense.  She described the couplings between Western and Japanese artists with plenty of slides and at breakneck speed.  Itwas intriguing and illuminated a second viewing after the talk.  Some of the pieces 'spoke' but others didn't quite hit the mark.  The scaling down didn't always work.

Also visited Catherine Dormor's exhibition in the Crypt.  Marvelous setting for her work which I like and find very interesting.  It worked well there with the pauses caused by the maze like space with little 'rooms'.  There is an ethereal quality to her work that appeals and depth. I especially liked the installation  with a video being shown through layers of silk.

Came across this painting by John Baldessari quite by chance and like it:
